The idea of this project was born when Oulu University Hospital wanted to update the websites of child and adolescent outpatient clinics. The significance of electronic communication has increased over the years and it has become major part in health care. With this thesis we can improve patients’ ways of getting information.

The objective of this thesis was to create informative, comprehensible and user-friendly webpage which would help both patients and their families. With the help of this webpage patients can find contact details or information about treatments in the outpatient clinics.

During this project we made a questionnaire in which we asked about customers’ wishes for the website. We wanted to find out what kind of information they hoped to get and how often they used the Internet concerning treatment.

The inquiry revealed that most of the customers use the Internet daily. Approximately half of all the informants had visited the webpage of Oulu University Hospital. However, only a few had searched information about the outpatient clinics.

As a result we created a new website for the child and adolescent outpatient clinics of Oulu University Hospital. The webpages were designed in co-operation with the nurses and doctors in the outpatient clinics. The results of this thesis can be used in patient counselling and to develop outpatient services.
