We did a literature review of prostitution in Finland and finnish youth who offer sexual favors in order to get money or gifts, such as clothes and other goods, drugs or a place to stay at night. Buying sex and offering these things in return for sexual favors from underage children is illegal in Finland. We got this topic idea from Tyttöjen talo, which is a place downtown in Oulu for girls and young women where they can spend time and talk with health care workers. Workers there have seen this phenomenon increasing around Oulu during the past years. Sexual favors of unerage girls in Finland has been studied a little and spoken even less, which is why we chose this topic as our thesis. We wanted to make this topic more prominent. We hope that this thesis will help health care workers to understand sexuality better and provide capability to face the phenomenon and meet these girls so that those girls who offer sexual favors can get better help in health care when needed. We collected information about prostitution and sexual favors and pieced together their health impacts in sexuality, self-perception and physical and mental health. We capsulized this information into four sections: 1) sexual favors of underaged youth 2) form of sexual favors, 3) predisposing and protective factors and 4) health impacts of sexual favors. It would be important to collect more information about girls’ sexual favors in Finland to understand better its extent nowadays. Knowledge of the phenomenon’s extent and instructions of meeting girls who have offered sexual favors would simplify health care workers’ job and give them important preparedness. Cracking the taboo this way would make it easier for the girls and young women to search for help of any kind if needed.
