The idea of this thesis came from Aseliike Markus Remes Oy. The company has recently started to import new trademark products from South Korea to Finland. The purpose of the thesis is to explore risks of the company’s import process and create a risk analysis related to it.

Import practices and policy, risk management processes and typical risks of importing are studied in the theory of this thesis.

The risk analysis is built by exploring company’s import process and by discovering all the risks of the process. A questionnaire was made for this purpose which helped the company to determine probabilities and consequences of the risks. The risk analysis was then created based on these results.

Results of the thesis indicate that many of the risks are serious ones and therefore need immediate operations to diminish them. The company should focus on their import process and pay attention to all the risks that the process contains. Underestimating this can cost huge extra expenses.

Generally, all companies should create a risk analysis to support their risk management processes and revise it regularly. A well-made risk analysis helps company to understand and observe their risks that otherwise could stay hidden. In the possible future studies related to this work, students could find ways to diminish the risks based on the existing risk analysis.

Based on this thesis, we hope that Aseliike Markus Remes Oy uses the created risk analysis to consider the seriousness of their risks of importing and finds ways to diminish the most serious risks.
