The aim of this thesis was to make group plants familiar to elementary school children by visiting a greenhouse. By knowing the nearby producers the domestic production might become more valuable to the families also. The other aim was to create a model of what the visits would contain. This model can be used later on. In the field of agriculture a same kind of thesis had been made earlier and also horticultural point of view was needed to be expressed. The orderer for this thesis is Timosenkosken luontokoulu (a nature school in Oulu). The work started with an electronic inquiry for a group of elementary school teachers in which their interest towards this kind of visits was surveyed. They were also asked to tell what sort of matters they would want to be addressed at the greenhouse and before the visit. The need for a possibility to visit a greenhouse was quite big. The first visit was in May 2010 for 14 pupils in Aleniuksen puutarha. By the experiences it is crucial to have knowing people guide the visit and be available to the visitors. Feedback was given by the pupils and their teacher and also by the greenhouse entrepreneur. The feedback included positive critics and development ideas. It is important that the planning, interaction between all parties and upkeep of co-operation work. In that way the visits are easier to plan and carry out. To keep the interest of pupils to the matter and having a group that is small enough are things that need to be addressed when the aim is a successful visit.
