Femoralishermon johtopuudutus lonkkamurtumapotilaan perioperatiivisena kivunhoitona

This Bachelor´s thesis was conducted in cooperation with the surgery and anesthesia department of Oulu University Hospital, which commissioned this project. A teaching video about the perioperative pain management of patient´s suffering from a femoral fracture, using a femoral nerve block was produced as the functional part of this bachelor´s thesis. The need for this kind of teaching tool was provided by the department of surgery and anesthesia, who identified a need for up-to-date teaching material, which could be used especially for new anesthetic nurses and student´s in orientation. This teaching material can also be useful for any healthcare workers dealing with femoral fracture patient´s who need a femoral nerve block.

The aim of this project is to serve as a self-study tool, which can help implement good practices into the care one provides for a patient who is suffering from a femoral fracture, needing a femoral nerve block. The teaching video produced in this project contains the preparation´s needed before performing a femoral nerve block in detail. It also displays the duties of an anesthetic nurse, during the procedure and after, when they are observing the numbed patient. The commissioner of this project can use this material, in any way they deem necessary for the distribution of the material.

The project was conducted in close cooperation with the commissioner and began with mapping the need for it. This was followed by creating a thoroughly researched project plan that contained a broad knowledge base on femoral fractures, femoral nerve block´s and the guidelines made for caring for a patient who has a femoral nerve block. The teaching video was based on this evidence-based research. The video was filmed and produced in the department in question.

Feedback on the project was gathered continuously throughout the project from both the supervisors and cooperation partners working in Oulu University Hospital. This feedback was a vital part in creating a tool for self-studying, that would fit the needs of the commissioner of this project. The feedback of the finished product was gathered also from anesthetic nurses working in the department of surgery and anesthesia. The feedback was positive and confirmed that the product of this Bachelor`s thesis project is useful and helpful.
