I have worked as an art director in an advertising agency for three years and executed a large number of visual communication projects during that time. I have found out that a good idea is more important in a project than the technical skills of the executer. Creative idea generation is usually the most challenging part of the project as well. Therefore I wanted to examine in what ways creative ideation can be enhanced.

I did research on creativity and ideation to find out what creative ideation is all about. I executed an animated music video using the information I gathered. After every day of work I wrote what I had done and how I did it. In the end I wrote a story of the project and pointed out the things that were useful or harmful in the ideation process.

According to my research the most important part of a creative project is defining the problem. That defines the question the rest of the project tries to answer. Ones creative potential consists of ones creative thinking skills, motivation and know-how. All of these qualities can be developed. Some people are born with more creative potential but there are ways by which anyone can reach a higher level of creativity than before. Enhancing creativity and ideation is mostly eliminating the things that disturb creative work. Stress and a stressful environment disturb creativity remarkably. Sleep, interaction, breaks and resting in general will excite creative ideation.
