"Kun ei voi tietää varmuutta onko kipu todellinen" : Muistisairaan kivunhoito ympärivuorokautisessa hoitolaitoksessa

The objective of this study is to produce the information which the work community could utilise in the care of the memory sick pain and thus could improve care results and this could have a positive effect on the inhabitant's situation. The study is qualitative in which the material has been collected with a questionnaire and has been dealt with utilising the content analysis. In the theory part it is briefly told about ageing, memory illnesses and their effects on the ability to function and from pain and from methods of treatment of pain.

In the results the nurses' views on the care of the memory sick pain are described and what kind of methods they use for the estimating of the pain. The purpose also was to clarify the challenges of the pain care. According to the results, the nurses have good knowledge about taking, evaluation and methods which are used for evaluation care of the pain. The medical treatment and identification of the real pain were experienced as most more challenging. Most of the mind the medical treatment is need according, however. The nurses mentioned the agreeing of the need for the additional education and of common practices and the written estimating of the pain care as development ideas.

The conclusions of this study that in the work community it would be good to fit in the pain care were, the common practices, the evaluation of the pain should be written and more necessary painkillers should be utilised. Referring to the results the written evaluation of the pain care would indeed be a good subject of the further study.
