The purpose of this thesis was to make a guide folder for the Köpsinrinne service center´s health care workers. The folder includes care instructions for patients who carry resistant microbes. We limited the subject matters to the most commonly resistant microbes that are present in Köpsinrinne. Those are MRSA, VRE and ESBL.

Our thesis is a functional degree work. We carried out the work as a project using various stages. The aim of the project was that health care workers of Köpsinrinne would benefit from the folder in their work. The aim was also to increase nurses´ information on these resistant microbes and to prevent these kinds of infections in the long term care.

The result of the project was a complete folder that includes some information on MRSA, VRE and ESBL. The folder includes also care instructions for the nurses´ of Köpsinrinne about patients who carry some of those microbes. We collected feedback to see how adequate the folders way. Due to the feedback we got information on how the thesis benefits.

Based on the feedback our thesis has been successful and that was what the customers and we wanted. The folder will help nurse s ´ of Köpsinrinne in their work. Direct results of this work will be savings, better prevention of infections, it improve attitudes of health care workers, reduced work stress and provides confidence to the work. An unexpected result was that our folder would also help patient s’ relatives who want to get adequate information from the nurses. How the service center has benefited from this folder in the long ran can be researched in the future.
