PURPOSE: To make an intercultural adaptation, and to provide a Spanish translation and psychometric evaluation of the original English version of the Healthcare Professionals Knowledge about Radiation Protection scale. METHODS: The Spanish translation was carried out following international Guidelines for the process of cross-cultural adaptation of self-report measures. A cross-sectional design study was carried out. A hundred and thirty-eight nurses from 4 different hospitals in Barcelona (Spain) completed the Spanish version of the scale. Total score of the scale was calculated. The Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) was used to evaluate a possible correlation between score and years of experience. A T-test for independent samples was used to evaluate significant differences between different groups. Cronbach's alpha and corrected item-total correlation coefficient and test-retest coefficient were used to determine internal consistency. The exploratory factor and parallel analysis was also calculated. All statistical tests were carried out with a level of significance α=0.05. RESULTS: The mean scale score was poor among Spanish nurses. The PCC between total score and years of experience showed a non-significant correlation (p>0.05). No differences were found between nurses who work in radiation exposed units and those who work in radiation unexposed units (p>0.05). A Cronbach α of 0.98 was obtained for the items of the scale. The corrected item-total correlation range was 0.5-0.8. The test-retest correlation coefficient was 0.9. The exploratory analysis factor showed a single factorial structure which explained a 60.86% of the variance. CONCLUSIONS: The new scale translated into Spanish (Sp- HPKRP) could be used to evaluate the degree of knowledge about radiological protection.

Aim The aim of this study was to compile, assess and synthesise empirical research on violence by social and healthcare clients or patients against staff and its connections to staff's well-being at work, implementation of work and activities of leaders related to it. Background Workplace violence against social and healthcare staff is a global and daily problem. One in three employees encounters violence from patients or clients and the risk of this is 16 times higher compared to other professions. None of the recent reviews on this topic were focused on the well-being at work, implementation of work or leaders' role in the cases of violence of clients or patients against the staff. Design An integrative review reported according to PRISMA Checklist. Methods The search was conducted to CINAHL, PubMed, PsychINFO and Scopus databases resulting in 21 articles. The quality of the articles was evaluated, and the data were analysed narratively. Results The workplace violence committed by clients and patients was negatively connected to staff's psychological, emotional and physical well-being at work and to their work performance and commitment. The leaders found this form of workplace violence challenging and ethically conflicted and felt that they were left alone without training and support. The employees expressed disappointment with their leaders' activities and suggested many measures to make environment safer to staff and patients. Conclusions In future, intervention studies are needed for prevention of workplace violence by patients and clients against staff and for supporting the well-being at work of staff in relation to violent incidents. Relevance to clinical practice Workplaces should introduce uniform protocols for reporting, preventing and processing workplace violence committed by clients and patients. An open dialogue with leaders and co-workers of the cases is of high importance. Leaders and staff need training that ensure patient and work safety. What does this paper contribute to the wider global clinical community? The study provides an evidence-based overall picture to the workplace violence committed by clients and patients against social and health care staff and helps to identify a global, daily but still in silent kept problem. The results reveal many connections of the workplace violence committed by clients and patients to staff's well-being at work, work performance and commitment and underlines several developmental needs in leaders' activities to promote safe environment for staff and patients. The commitment to the systematic reporting of the workplace violence from clients and patients against social and health care staff is the primary act in proceeding into the development of uniform protocols and support at workplaces.
Objectives: To determine the prevalence of vision loss among Delaware nursing home residents for further data collection to expand the existing evidence about the vision loss among nursing home residents on a national level. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved the statistical analysis of comprehensive eye examination records of 1,856 nursing residents residing in 20 Delaware nursing homes from 2005 to 2011. Descriptive statistical analyses were conducted to identify age-specific prevalence rates of vision loss (moderate-to-severe vision impairment and blindness). Results: The mean age of nursing home residents was 82.54 years (range: 65-111 years), and 61.70% were over the age of 80 years. The majority of nursing home residents were female (64.10%) and White (76.30%). The overall prevalence rates of moderate-to-severe vision impairment and blindness were 47.40% and 16.20%, respectively. Discussion: The high prevalence of vision loss among Delaware Nursing home residents indicates a demand for further data collection for expanding the existing evidence about the vision loss among nursing home residents on a national level.

Methods of Research and Knowledge Production is a 10 ETCS course module for OUAS international Master's Degree in Clinical Optometry students. The course is taught in English. This course begins in August as the program's first module and lasts until the end of May. The didactic portion of this course is offered via remote lectures and meetings. Materials are available for students in the electronic teaching and learning Moodle environment. Hybrid-model teaching and learning are also utilized for performing two on-campus workshop days. Some students are remotely present from their homes, while others can be present at our campus on the workshop days. After completing this Master’s degree, our students can apply for doctoral programs.
